The popularity of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment has increased since Kim Kardashian posted about her ‘Vampire Facial’ in 2013. PRP is obtained by centrifuging a blood sample to produce concentrated platelets.

PRP is a dense serum, rich in growth factors and cytokines. These growth factors regulate and induce cell migration and proliferation of new blood vessels.

Because of their characteristics, growth factors are able to heal and regenerate tissues which makes PRP an increasing popular treatment for skin rejuvenation, hair loss, scar revision, and pigmentary disorders, just to mention a few uses.

In a recent article published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, Dr. Christopher White and colleagues explored new applications of PRP treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma can be used topically massaged into the skin, as well as injected either superficially or deep into the dermis to achieve a rejuvenating effect.

In the hands of a trained physician, PRP, used in combination with deep microneedling, is very effective for scars and aged skin.

Microneedling uses fine needles in a back and forth motion across the skin to literally break apart the superficial bands around a scar. Platelet-rich plasma is then allowed to penetrate the skin through the microscopic channels created by the needles.

A similar technique is used to stimulate hair growth.

PRP obtained from the patient’s blood offers a safe and chemical-free treatment that is unique and highly personalized.

Nothing beats your own healing power!

Love your Skin.
